Timothy Counsell is a Partner and the Local Team Leader of the Banking and Asset Finance Team within the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group. He practices in the area of asset backed finance transactions and specialises in aircraft and shipping financing and registrations.
Tim joined the group in 1990 as an associate in the Corporate and Commercial department. He became partner in 1998 and Team Leader of the Banking and Asset Finance Team in 2001. In 2009 IFLR100 named Tim as a leading Lawyer in the Financial and Corporate category and most recently, he was awarded a Recommended rating for Banking and Finance in the PLC Which Lawyer Individual Recommendation league.
Tim graduated from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, with a B.Sc. in 1980, received the Certificate of Honours Standing in 1982, received an M.Sc. in microbiology and immunology in 1986 and his LL.B. in 1988, all from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. He was called to the Bar and admitted as a solicitor of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1990.
Tim served on the Bermuda Bar Council from 1995 to 2000 and has participated in a number of sub-committees of the Bar Council in respect of various corporate matters, the continuing education program implemented by Bar Council in 1999, production of pupillage guidelines for the Bar Association membership.
